Pacers fans could feel it in the air on Wednesday night. There was a chill on the back of their necks as they took their seats. Although they couldn’t pinpoint it at the time, they could feel that something was coming.
By the time they knew what had hit them, Indianapolis would never be the same. It was a storm for the ages — a ‘Murray flurry’ that the kids in attendance will tell their grandchildren about in 60 years.
Playing on a bum ankle, Jamal Murray dropped 52 points on 25 attempts from the floor in Wednesday’s 135-120 win over the Pacers. The veteran point guard went 10-of-11 from 3-point range and put on a masterclass shooting performance.
According to OptaStats, the Nuggets are the first team in NBA history to have two different players score 50+ points and also go 10-of-11 from deep in the same year. Murray joins Aaron Gordon, who did it in the season opener against Golden State.
And according to NBA podcast host Nate Duncan, the Nuggets joined the 1961-62 Lakers and 2018-19 Warriors as the only teams to produce three different 50-point scorers in a single season.
I don’t quite understand Denver’s most recent struggles at home. But for whatever reason the Nuggets have been an offensive juggernaut away from Ball Arena. They’re averaging 125 points per game over the last eight road wins.

I’ve made plenty of jokes over the last five years. But the hiring of Josh Byrnes as GM is genuinely a solid move. It feels like the Rockies are finally trying to adapt and evolve, and they’re smartly adding personnel with NL West experience.
