👋 Good Morning!

I still can’t get over how crazy this whole Chauncey Billups situation is. The allegations are straight out of a corny casino heist movie.

I’ll reserve any judgement until all of the facts are known. But obviously as a lifelong Denver sports fan, I’m hoping to hear something encouraging soon. This unfortunately has a chance to be a pretty sad story.

A quiet deadline isn’t a bad thing for the Broncos

It takes a great poker player to successfully run an NFL franchise. It’s not just a matter of evaluating talent, sometimes it’s about being able to read a room and operating accordingly. It’s as much of an art form as it is a science, which is what makes the process incredibly complicated.

On one hand, if there was ever a time to push your chips into the middle of the table and make a major move for another weapon, this would have been the season. The Broncos have the benefit of a cost-controlled quarterback and in a year where the AFC seems wide open, you can definitely talk yourself into the price being worth it.

On the other hand, now that Denver is done with the Russell Wilson debacle, it’s nice to be in a position where a draft-savvy general manager like George Paton can take advantage of the team’s picks.

I would have been open to adding another wide receiver or potentially a pass-catching tight end. Ultimately I’m fine with riding with the guys that Denver already has in the locker room though. This group has a good thing going.

Sometimes the best move you can make is the disciplined decision to not overspend. Now go prove that logic right by winning the AFC West.
