👋 Good Morning!
The Denver Broncos are listed as slight underdogs at home on Saturday. Initially that made me a little bit upset, but then I realized that Sean Payton is a master of psychological warfare, so it’s probably right where they want to be.
To paraphrase Bo Nix, we’re the ‘overdogs’ baby. Nobody nationally believes in the Broncos? That’s just fine with me. Sounds like the same old tune we heard every single week this season.

A star is born

(Imagn)
The ascension we’ve seen with Peyton Watson this season is absurd.
As we approach the halfway point of the regular season, the athletic forward out of UCLA is averaging career numbers across the board. At roughly 14 points per game, he’s more than doubled what he averaged over his first three NBA seasons (6 PPG). He’s doing so on an impressive 51 percent from the floor and 41 percent from 3-point range, too.
His improvement in the last two years has been relatively steady. So it’s not as if this jump came out of nowhere like the Zeke Nnaji renascence. Ever since Nikola Jokić was sidelined with a knee injury, though, Watson has played like an All-Star.
Over his last five games, Watson has scored 26 points a night on 54 percent from the floor. According to Jake Coyne of Stats Perform, Watson is the first player since Kevin Durant in his 2013-14 MVP season to produce the following over a five-game span: 129 points, 15 made 3’s, 62.5 percent from 3-point & 15 combined blocks / steals.
Watson’s numbers on both ends of the floor have been stellar. But what’s even cooler about the whole situation is instead of ranting about how he should have been given more minutes early in his career and pounding his chest, Watson has openly said that it was good for him to wait his turn. He’s talked about the privilege of pressure and the eagerness of the entire roster to prove doubters wrong.
Obviously it’s never an ideal scenario for the Nuggets to be without Jokić for an extended period. What a story this is turning out to be though.
