👋 Good Morning!

The Rockies need to win 16 more games over the next two months and some change in order to avoid breaking Chicago’s record for the worst record in MLB history (41-121).

With 60 games still remaining, avoiding the the record should be an attainable goal, even for a team as bad as this one. What I’m curious to see is if the team holds onto tradable assets in order to do it.

Ryan McMahon has set the squad up perfectly to deal him to a playoff team and get back a quality piece or two to build around. Jake Bird is a guy who they could seemingly get something back for.

The draft went our way for once. Ethan Holliday is a really exciting prospect to build around. Lean into the future and finally tear this thing down before building it back up the right way.

Bo Nix is doing all of the right things

If you missed the big headline that came out the beginning of Broncos training camp its how Bo Nix spent time with Drew Brees over the offseason.

According to Sean Payton, the second-year starter and legendary Saints quarterback spent about four or five days together working on the offense, Nix’s process, how to manage the NFL calendar and more. He also added that the whole thing was initiated by Nix and that it’s exactly the type of thing you’re looking for out of your QB.

“There’s a lot that he wants to absorb in a fast period of time,” Payton said. “That’s a great thing for a young player like that.”

Payton was all in on Nix before anyone else. I’m about as dedicated of a college football consumer as there is and I’d be the first to admit that I had some doubts about the former Auburn / Oregon player. Now a year into the process, though, I get it. I get why that locker room is so bought into him.

Leadership isn’t just about being vocal. It’s about the way you conduct yourself and your actions along the way. “He’s someone who works his tail off, wants to improve,” Payton said.

It sounds like Nix also worked with throwing guru Tom House, who worked with Tom Brady throughout his legendary career. He’s doing everything within his power to try and maximize his potential.
