Buffs make strong hire in Brennan Marion

The University of Colorado has reportedly hired Sacramento State head coach Brennan Marion to be the offensive coordinator in Boulder.
Marion, 38, is considered one of the up-and-coming offensive minds in college football today. Prior to his one season as a head coach in the FCS, Marion spent two years as Barry Odom’s play-caller at UNLV.
With Marion’s ‘Go-Go’ offense, the Rebels averaged about 35 points per game in 2023 and 2024. They went 20-8 over those two seasons and made consecutive bowls for the first time in school history.
Things didn’t go quite as expected at Sacramento State. It seems that he was sold on the idea of the school jumping to the FBS and that just doesn’t seem to be a realistic option for the Hornets. He still went 7-5 in his first year as a head coach though. So it’s not as if he completely bombed in a tough Big Sky Conference.
If the Buffs truly give Marion the keys and let him do this thing, it feels like a strong hire to help optimize an athletic quarterback in Julian Lewis. The one thing to keep an eye on is how he’s essentially been a mercenary in his career. Marion has never spent more than two seasons at the same school. Regardless, Marion will be A LOT more fun for y’all to watch than Pat Shurmur ball.
