👋 Good Morning!

I hope everyone got a good stretch in before breaking out the shovel for the first time this winter.

I’ll definitely be sick of it by Christmas, but there’s always something about that first major snow of the year that makes me smile.

Comeback Kid 2.0

(Imagn)

John Elway was always known as the ‘comeback kid’ but Bo Nix might just be the second coming.

Nix isn’t a perfect quarterback in just his second season of professional football. The offense is still looking to find more consistency, even despite the fact that Denver has won night straight. But when the game is on the line and the Broncos need to go down and score, time and time again, the young buck has delivered.

As the great Zac Stevens laid out in his most recent article, Nix currently leads the NFL in both game-winning drives (6) and fourth-quarter comebacks (5) this season. Sure, it’s been a lot of high-stress matchups and the Broncos have occasionally had to rely on some pretty remarkable late-game theatrics. We’ve now seen over the last two years, though, that No. 10 just seems to have the ‘clutch gene’ that all great quarterbacks possess.

Since Nix has entered the league, he has more game-winning drives than both Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. So while you can call him flukey or poke holes in his game, at some point it needs to be recognized that the kid is just a winner.

There’s still plenty of room for Nix to grow — both this season and in the coming years. We went an entire decade without a viable option at quarterback though. It’s good to stop every now and then to appreciate just how far this offense has come the last few years.
