👋 Good Morning!
The Rockies are hilarious. After going into the All-Star Break with no series wins at home, the Rox have come out of the break and won two series in a row. The 6-0 win over St. Louis yesterday snapped a stretch of 220 games without a shutout win for the club — the third-longest streak in MLB history.
Regardless of a good week for the team, the 2025 Rockies are still likely going to finish as the worst team in franchise history. But it does give me a kick knowing that all of those Cardinals fans in the stands came out of the All-Star Game with hopes of getting hot and going on a run. And instead they got swept by the D-Backs and then lost two of three to the Rockies.
It’s a little sad that we don’t have more to be proud of as a fanbase. But sometimes you need a little levity in the dark times. For me it’s enjoying the pain and shame of teams with actual expectations losing to the Rockies.

Courtland Sutton is the definition of dependable

(Imagn)
Rod Smith was my favorite player growing up. He might not have been as flashy as some of the star receivers of his era. If Randy Moss was a Ferrari, Smith was more like a Toyota Camry. Rain, snow or shine, though, no matter who was out there at quarterback, No. 80 was going to make plays.
The guy who fits that mold currently is Courtland Sutton. He and Smith are very different types of receivers but Sutton has been ‘Mr. Dependable’ over the years.
He’s played with so many starting quarterbacks in his career it’s actually hard to name them all off the top of your head. Fun fact, the group includes Case Keenum, Brandon Allen and Jeff Driskel. He’s particularly flourished with Russell Wilson and Bo Nix though.
Going into the last year of his deal, all indications are that the team and Sutton are currently negotiating an extension. I love that the plan seems to be to try and keep him around. The Broncos have have added quite a bit of flash to the skill group in recent years and that’s a good thing. There’s something to be said about the consistency of Sutton though.
Sutton has been through a lot with this franchise in his career. He’s earned the opportunity to at least finish his prime in the Orange & Blue. Pay that man his money. Then get Nik Bonitto a new deal, too.

Bo Nix is doing everything in his power to set himself up for success. In addition to working on his mechanics with a throwing guru, Nix worked with Sean Payton’s long-time protege Drew Brees this offseason.

Ethan Holliday has signed a contract with the organization that includes a $9 million signing bonus. It’s the highest signing bonus ever for a player drafted out of high school.

“That’s my quarterback”
Sean Payton says it was Bo Nix’s idea to go visit Drew Brees in the offseason, and loved that Bo went and did that:
