Demaryius Thomas to be immortalized in Broncos Ring of Fame

👋 Good Morning! There’s not much on the Colorado sports calendar right now…so here are some suggestions to fill your time this summer.

  • Rocky Mountain National Park — Sometimes I forget how lucky we are to live in Colorado. Scenic drives, amazing wildlife, pristine lakes, and picturesque views. It’s fun for the whole fam.

  • Glenwood Hot Springs (or any mountain hot springs) — If you’ve never been, put it in your calendar this summer. Or check out the underrated scene at some of the smaller hot spring spots like Strawberry Park in Steamboat.

  • Red Rocks — Especially if you’re new to Colorado, just go even if you’re not there for a concert. The views are worth it every time.

  • Grand Lake — Actually, don’t go here. This is still somewhat of a hidden gem that I don’t want anyone to know about.

For sports, check out the Rapids, who are at least competitive and in the mix this year. They have a big road game against Portland Timbers FC tonight, and a win would go a long way as it would allow the Rapids to jump their Western Conference foe in the standings.

If you’re looking for a local team to embrace, the Rapids might just be the move. Our DNVR Rapids podcast is a great way dip your toes in the water and learn about the latest happenings of the club.

Demaryius Thomas to be immortalized in Broncos Ring of Fame

Demaryius Thomas is going in the Broncos Ring of Fame this fall and I’m really happy to see the team honor his legacy.

One of my favorite football players of all-time, ‘DT’ was a special talent and an even more special person. It’s heartbreaking that he won’t be able to get his moment in front of the home crowd, but his name should absolutely be up there with all of the other Broncos legends.

In his 10-year NFL career, Thomas racked up close to 10,000 receiving yards and 63 touchdowns. Had he gotten to play with Peyton Manning for more of his career, though, and not guys like Tim Tebow, Case Keenum and Trevor Siemian, I genuinely believe DT would have finished with a few thousand more yards and about 15 more touchdowns.

I’ll never forget watching Thomas stride across the open field for the game-winning score over the Steelers in 2012, or being in the stands to see him catch Manning’s record-breaking 509th touchdown pass against the 49ers in 2014. Seeing him torch the Cardinals that year was also one of the more fun random regular season games I’ve ever been to. It was like he was playing in a video game and the opponent had absolutely no chance of slowing DT down.

My favorite memory of Thomas was following Denver’s 2015 overtime victory over the Patriots on Sunday Night Football. My dad and I were fortunate to be sitting near the Broncos bench and after CJ Anderson scampered in for the winning score, many of the players came over to the stands to celebrate with the fans. I was wearing an 88 jersey that night and ended up getting a pair of gloves from DT. Getting to experience that type of moment with the man who made me such a big fan in the first place was just one of those picture-perfect moments you never forget.

The world lost a great guy far too soon. But his legacy will be forever immortalized in Broncos Country. DT forever.

What does the Avs depth chart look like at this point in the offseason? What are the key positional needs that Colorado needs to address this summer? It should be a fascinating couple of months. | By AJ Haefele

A lack of depth has proved to be a significant issue for the Nuggets in back-to-back postseason departures. Can Denver count on internal improvement moving forward? The DNVR Nuggets fellas expanded on that question on yesterday’s show. Also, new head coach David Adelman is speaking with the media today. We’ll be covering it here.

Can Orlando Arcia help the Rockies? Colorado added the veteran utility infielder who was just designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves in hopes of rekindling a dormant offense. Arcia was an All-Star in 2023, but there’s a reason he was DFA’d.
