👋 Good Morning!

It’s a good day to watch a bunch of Nate MacKinnon highlights and daydream about another parade this June.

It’s Stanley Cup or bust for the Avs. Good thing that’s nothing new around here.

Happy hockey season.

Everybody loves a redemption story

The Colorado Avalanche have a good chance to be one of the best teams in the NHL this season. Their first chance to prove it is tonight in a late-night matchup against the Los Angeles Kings.

AJ Haefele went all out on an in-depth season preview and I highly recommend that you check it out. You can do so here.

But with the 2025-26 season officially upon us, here are a couple of things that I’m going to have my eyes on.

  1. Gabe Landeskog exceeded expectations with his impact after his triumphant return last spring. Can he hold up over the course of a grueling season? Is it really possible that after 3 years away, he can just come back and be his old self? Seeing him win another Stanley Cup would be straight out of a Disney movie.

  2. Jared Bednar has talked about how the mentality of the guys going into the year reminds him of the 2021-22 crew. About how this group is hungry after another heartbreaking loss to Dallas in the playoffs, and that they’re chomping at the bit to get this campaign going. I was in the building for that Game 7 loss and will never forget the eerie silence in the locker room postgame. I have a feeling this team is going to play with a real chip on their shoulders.

  3. Brock Nelson was solid for the Avs last season after coming over from the Islanders. I think he can be so much more though. My prediction is that he produces a 35-goal season for the fourth time in five years and also tops 40 assists for the first time.

  4. Chris MacFarland said yesterday that he isn’t worried about getting an extension done for Martin Necas. Can both sides work together and get it done before the holidays? Or are we in for another Mikko Rantanen scenario where the storyline becomes a major distraction? I'm hoping for the former because I think Necas is a really natural fit and has really only scratched the surface here.

  5. Gavin Brindley made the opening night roster after a strong camp. I’ll be curious to see what type of impact he’s able to make early on. Will he be able to stick it out or will a move to the Eagles ultimately be best for his development? We shall see.

CU fell short in a potential upset bid at TCU last week. Is another QB change coming?

The Broncos stunned the Eagles this past weekend and made a statement to the rest of the NFL in the process. It all started with a halftime speech from Sean Payton.

The CSU Rams are in big trouble and the path doesn’t look much brighter from here.
