It’s another year of lost seasons for the two major college football programs in the state.

If you’re looking for a far more enjoyable product, the college basketball teams in Boulder and Fort Collins should both be far more entertaining than anything we’ve seen on the gridiron this fall.

It’s time to go back to the drawing board

Let me start by saying that the Colorado Avalanche are an extremely good hockey team. Some of their 5v5 metrics are borderline dominant. And I genuinely believe they have as good of a chance as anyone in the league to win the Stanley Cup.

Despite how good the Avs are — and despite how much speed this team possesses — they are downright awful in overtime and even worse in shootouts. You would think that having less men on the ice would favor the Avs with the way the top guys can skate, but for whatever reason it’s just not clicking.

Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas have been stellar together on Colorado’s top line. It’s consistently been a train wreck in overtime though. If the game goes to OT tonight, I might just close my eyes and wait for it to end like a kid too scared to admit he shouldn’t have watched the horror movie in the first place.

Jared Bednar is a great coach. They just can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. Put Valeri Nichushkin out there and see if things don’t go differently.

Bruce Brown looks like he never left. The veteran guard is a perfect fit off the bench and had another nice showing in the win over the Kings on Monday night.
