👋 Good Morning! I’ve already explained that I have a passionate love for grilling. But I also want to tell you how excited I am to eat a bunch of hot dogs this summer. People sometimes think they’re too good for a hot dog. Those are not people I want to hang out with though. Roasting a weenie in a camp fire, grilling some dogs for the 4th of July, grabbing a foot-long at a Rockies game for Rooftop Friday — this summer is going to be great and it’s going to involve a lot of hot dogs. I’ve said it a few times of late but enjoy the little things. Life is too short to not have a little bit of fun. — Justin Michael

Locking down Nelson is a win for the Avs

(Imagn)

We all know the deal. The Avs lost a heartbreaking series to the Stars in seven games. It was a super frustrating outcome and I don’t think the fans will truly be over it for quite some time.

As the team proved once again on Wednesday, though, the one thing you cannot accuse the Colorado Avalanche of is sitting idle while they are fortunate enough to have a couple of generational superstars. Locking down Brock Nelson with a contract extension was the best possible move they could make for the 2C spot.

Sure, you’re taking some risk in year three with an aging player like Nelson, but you are also ensuring stability for that second line going into the year. And getting the move done now means you have the rest of the offseason to tinker and potentially move somebody to free up some money.

Regardless of this year’s result, the team was good enough to win it all. The depth was there. Give Nelson, Landeskog and Nichushkin a full season together and let’s see what comes of it.

The Rockies swept the Marlins with a 3-2 win in Wednesday’s day game. It was their first sweep of anybody since May of 2024. And it was just the second time in the last 10 years that the Rockies have won a series against the Marlins on the road.

AJ Haefele went far more in-depth on the new Brock Nelson deal than I did. Check out what the numbers say about his performance with the Avs so far and how he might age in the coming years.
