👋 Good Morning!

Have you ever thought about what might have happened if there wasn’t an 8-day gap between the Rockies sweeping the 2007 NLCS and the start of the World Series?

What about if Rahim Moore didn’t let Jacoby Jones slip behind him in the 2012 divisional round? Or if Anthony Carter simply inbounded the ball correctly in 2009?

We’ll be exploring some of these moments over the course of the week, so make sure you’re locked into everything we’ve got going on at DNVR. Let’s have some fun during the slowest time of the sports calendar and look back on what might have been.

Rockies fans finally get a little bit of hope with the selection of Ethan Holliday

(Imagn)

There might just be hope for the Rockies to turn things around someday. With the fourth pick in Sunday’s MLB draft, Colorado selected Ethan Holliday, the son of Rockies legend Matt Holliday and one of the top prospects in the 2025 class.

A 6-foot-4, 210-pound shortstop who throws right and bats left, Holliday is a tremendous athlete with some serious pop. In his senior year at Stillwater High School, Holliday hit .617 and averaged a home run every other game (16 over 32 games).

Assuming that he signs and doesn’t elect to attend Oklahoma State, it will be interesting to see how Holliday’s path to the pros plays out. At just 18 years old, it could definitely take some time before he’s ready for the big leagues, so there will need to be some patience as he develops. But it’s hard not to fantasize about what could be when you see that sweet swing of his. He definitely looks like his old man out there with the way he can put the ball out of the yard.

Obviously this season is still a disaster and the current status of the organization is bleak. Aside from Todd Helton and Larry Walker both being inducted into the Hall of Fame, the last five years have been one of the most frustrating stretches in baseball history. It’s just been nothing but defeat. Landing Holliday finally gives you something to be optimistic about though.

You’ve got to start a rebuild somewhere. Starting with a piece like Ethan Holliday is not a bad way to kick things off.

The Nuggets finally announced the trade officially with Sacramento. Hopefully this means we’re one step closer to the Jonas Valanciunas being smoothed out. Denver really can’t afford to go into another season without a playable big behind Jokić.

The Rockies fell 4-2 to the Reds on Sunday which extended their series losing streak to seven going into the All-Star break.

The DNVR Rockies crew went live on Sunday to react to the MLB Draft. See what the guys had to say about the team landing Ethan Holliday.
