👋 Good Morning!
It might take some extra caffeine this morning but a blowout win on national TV is a hell of a way for the Avalanche to kickstart the season.
Between 9:00 p.m. starts in the middle of the week and a 7:30 a.m. kickoff for the Broncos on Sunday, everyone’s natural body clock is in for some fun. Rest up. This is what we train for.

Show (him) the money!

(Imagn)
You would have got to feel pretty good if you’re an agent for Martin Necas right now. You might even pick up the phone and go full Jerry Maguire. “Show me the money!”
I talked about it a little bit yesterday but Necas only scratched the surface of what he can be with the Avs last season. And as we saw with his two-goal performance in the 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on opening night, the Avs would be wise to get a new deal for him done soon.
A pure goal scorer who can skate with the best of them, Necas is a perfect fit on the ice with Nathan MacKinnon. As AJ Haefele wrote last night, it’s almost as if he was bred in lab to play for this version of the Avalanche.
Assuming that he’s still here and it doesn’t develop into a Mikko Rantanen scenario, the Avs will need Necas to be louder in the postseason than he was the first time around. But I’m really high on his potential within this system.
If this was 20 years ago, I’d say that he has All-Star potential this season. But since nobody has cared about that stuff in a decade, I’ll just say that a fully actualized version of Necas could be the x-factor needed to make another deep run.
