👋 Good Morning!

It’s still to be determined whether or not the Rockies will tie the 2024 White Sox for the worst record in MLB history. With 10 games to go, the Rox need at least one more win to avoid getting added to that trivia question.

My question for the fans is does it really matter at this point? Whether they tie the record or not, this has been the worst season by any Colorado sports franchise in at least the 21st Century. There’s an argument it’s the worst ever, especially when you start looking at things like run differential.

Dick Monfort deserves to have the record associated with his name. I won’t root against my teams but I won’t lose a bit of sleep if they drop the next 10.

The Avalanche are hungry for another run at the Stanley Cup

(Imagn)

It’s Stanley Cup or bust for the Colorado Avalanche.

At yesterday’s media day event, the tone was set for the 2025-26 season. This is a confident and hungry team coming into the year. And while the core of this crew has already won a championship, nobody in that building is satisfied.

Jared Bednar compared the mindset to how the guys felt going into the 2021-22 campaign. Obviously that one turned out pretty well in the end.

Gabe Landeskog said that he didn’t grind behind the scenes for three years to simply be a participant, the whole point was to come back and raise another banner with his teammates.

Really, everyone that spoke made it very clear that the belief internally is this group has the makings of a championship team. And with two of top five players in the world on your team, why shouldn’t they feel that way?

The Avs were good enough last year. They’ll be good enough this year as well, and probably next season too. Hockey is just a crazy sport and the amount of talent you have on the bench doesn’t guarantee you anything.

Just look at the first decade after the Avs came to Denver. They very realistically could have won four or five Stanley Cups but lost some tough matchups to Detroit, Dallas, etc.

Sakic, Forsberg and Co. got their two. I’d love to see this generation of stars win at least one more. Landy’s comeback story has been one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to cover. The future movie about him starring a Hemsworth brother could use a classic Hollywood ending though. Just imagine seeing him raise the cup in Ball Arena and the type of reaction it would get from the fans.

Gear up for the fall

There’s never been a better time than now to gear up for the fall. Take advantage of these incredible deals and snag whatever merchandise you’ve had yours eyes on.

Will Martin Necas’ contract situation be a distraction for the Avalanche like the Mikko Rantanen situation?

Patrick Surtain II was targeted a surprising amount in the loss to the Colts. How will he respond on Sunday?

How do you not love this guy?
