👋 Good Morning!

The Indianapolis Colts have signed Philip Rivers to the practice squad. Yes, the same Philip Rivers who beefed with Jay Cutler on Christmas Eve, 2007. The same Philip Rivers who is 44 years old and been out of the league since 2021.

Always appreciate when your team has a good QB. Because we’re seeing consistently just how desperate teams can get.

The difference between being good and generational

(Imagn)

The Colorado Avalanche are as bad at shootouts as they are good at playing real hockey.

It doesn’t make much sense with how skilled the team is. With the offensive firepower on this roster, you’d assume it would be an advantage for the Avs. But for whatever reason, this group just seems to struggle in 3v3 overtime, and they’re even worse in shootout scenarios.

Honestly, the Avs have been so dominant to begin the season that we’ve had to stretch to find things to nitpick. In 5v5 scenarios this is the best team in the world right now and it’s not even close. So while it would be nice to get 2 points in a few of these matchups, I’m ultimately more interested in the power play than this great team dropping the occasional point. Shootouts are gimmicks you don’t have to worry about in the postseason.

The process isn’t always bad. But the Avs are too good to not make teams pay more consistently when the opposition gets sent to the sin bin. Getting more production on the power play could be the difference between being a really good team and a generational juggernaut.

RJ Harvey passed the eye test in a major way in Sunday’s win over the Raiders. Henry Chisholm recently wrote about his opportunity this season with J.K. Dobbins’ unfortunate injury.

The Avs fell in a shootout in Nashville last night. It was still a successful road trip though.

Josh Pascarelli was named the Mountain West Basketball Player of the Week. The junior guard has hit 18 of his last 20 attempts from 3-point range over CSU’s last three wins.
