The deal is done.

Martin Necas and the Colorado Avalanche have agreed on an eight-year extension worth $11.5 million per season. Instead of having to take contract drama into the holidays like last winter, the Avs and Necas can move forward with both sides fully on board. It’s a big potential distraction avoided.

While you’ll see some folks try to argue that this isn’t a good deal for the Avs because Colorado “could have just signed Mikko Rantanen” instead, that stance conveniently ignores how Mikko was traded twice for not wanting to come down from $14 million before settling for $12 million a year in Dallas.

Necas, 26, is getting what he’s worth with this new deal. But the difference is he prioritized having a future with this team. Maybe he could have gotten a few more bucks somewhere else, but he recognizes that he’s got a good thing going with the Avs.

We’ll hope to see him produce like this in the playoffs but Necas has looked awesome to begin the 2025-26 season. He has 13 points through 11 games and is really meshing well on the first line with Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen.

The Nuggets have looked phenomenal through the first four games of the year. Jamal Murray has been on fire, Nikola Jokić has four straight triple-doubles and the rotation has looked better than we’ve seen in years.

The Broncos get Dre Greenlaw back this week after serving his one-game suspension. While him having to miss a game for barking at an official was incredibly lame, his accountability through it all has been admirable.
