It’s July 1st and that means we only have to wait one more month for football. In the meantime, make sure you use this stretch to get any neglected projects completed. Get organized around the house, get the yard in shape, because once football season is here it’s going to be time to lock in.

This is as excited as I’ve been for the Broncos in a really long time. I genuinely believe that they’re good enough to win the AFC West. And I really don’t think it’s crazy to consider them a sleeper pick to make the Super Bowl.

Don’t get me wrong, the Nuggets making big moves is a lot of fun. But I’m really starting to get that football itch. I can almost smell the tailgates.

After an uneventful NBA Draft, the Nuggets kicked off free agency with a bang on Monday. Bringing back Bruce Brown on a team-friendly deal and trading for Cam Johnson are both great moves from the new front office duo of Ben Tenzer and Jon Wallace. After a couple of frustrating seasons where there just was not enough depth around Nikola Jokić, it seems the team is finally rectifying the issue.

Johnson is a comparable 3-point shooter to MPJ but a far better shot creator and defender. He’ll thrive playing off of Jokić and save the Nuggets $18 million in the process. It should be a perfect fit.

I’d imagine we’ll see an attempt to get Dario Saric and/or Zeke Nnaji off of the books as well. But after coming into the week with very little flexibility, the Nuggets opened up all kinds of possibility with Monday’s moves. This was about as ideal of a start to free agency as we could have hoped for.

Finally, I want to finish by saying that Michael Porter Jr. is one of the toughest basketball players I’ve seen. What he’s overcome physically to have an NBA career, let alone win a ring, it’s a really cool story and I’ll continue to root for his success. He was a bigger part of that 2023 championship run than he gets credit for.
