👋 Good Morning!

This is my last newsletter of the week, so I just wanted to wish everyone a very happy 4th of July weekend. I hope you all get a chance to do something fun or whatever it is that brings you a little joy.

Speaking of joy, I’ll be taking part in one of my guilty pleasures, which is watching the Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest. It’s absolutely disgusting and I can’t keep my eyes off of it.

It started as a silly tradition with my little brother when we were kids. 20 years later, though, I genuinely look forward to watching Joey Chestnut dominate the field every year. He’s an American icon and I hope to someday shake his hand.

The Nuggets have dominated free agency. In a matter of 48 hours they went from having almost no depth to being able to go 10-deep. And even more important than simply just adding players for the sake of it, Denver has managed to sign / trade for guys that will fit perfectly around Nikola Jokić.

The Nuggets needed more shooters. Well now they’ve got Cam Johnson, Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr.

It had been years since Denver has had a serviceable backup center behind Jokić, so the new front office flipped Dario Saric for Jonas Valančiūnas, and now all of a sudden the Nuggets have real depth in the front court for the first time since Mason Plumlee was coming off the bench.

Obviously it’s easy to get swept up in the emotion of the moment. But the Nuggets went from the group all of the national shows were writing off and talking about missed windows to one of the top two or three contenders in the NBA. There are no guarantees in this world but I love how this roster is shaping up.

The Avs have not made any splash signings since the start of free agency. They have however signed Parker Kelly to a four-year contract extension. They also signed Sam Malinski to a one-year deal.
