The Nuggets hiring David Adelman makes a lot of sense

Plus, a look back on Gabe Landeskog's return

šŸ‘‹ Good Morning! I want to wish everyone a very happy Memorial Day Weekend and start today by thanking anyone who serves our country.

We get to live our lives thanks to the sacrifices made by all of the remarkable men and women in the military. And I hope that's something we collectively never lose sight of. You can celebrate, you can criticize, you can do what you please because of these brave heroes.

I intend to enjoy my Memorial Day with a little bit of grilling, an ice cold beer or two, and maybe some classic tunes to get the vibes right. Sometimes you've got to enjoy the little things in life and I personally believe that it's impossible to have a bad day while sitting in a camping chair, with a hot dog in hand, and some Steely Dan bumping in the background.

Enjoy the weekend. Cheers. — Justin Michael

David Adelman makes a lot of sense

The Nuggets are officially going with David Adelman. I wondered if the team might try to hire a general manager before making the head coaching decision, however, I'm not surprised to see the interim tag removed after the way the players seemed to respond under Adelman's leadership.

Typically I'm not a big fan of promoting an interim coach. I think that it's easy to draw the wrong conclusions in small sample sizes, particularly if the previous coach's style was as intense as Michael Malone's and the new guy in charge is more of a player's coach like Adelman. I just think it's human nature for things to lighten up and for the team to seem looser in that scenario. But I do believe that Adelman is ready for the opportunity. And I also believe he might have gotten a head coaching gig elsewhere if not in Denver.

There is certainly some risk associated with hiring a first-time head coach. Adelman has been around this game his entire life though. You could hear the reverence the players had for him. And based on the way the Thunder are thumping the Timberwolves right now, Nuggets fans should at least feel some pride over the way a shorthanded Nuggets team took them to the brink.

Adelman earned the job. I'd love to see what he could do with a little bit more depth on the roster and a little more experience under his belt.

Let's not lose sight of how special Landy's return was

I saw a tweet yesterday that shared Gabe Landeskog's Game 4 goal against the Stars and talked about we all moved past the incredible comeback story far too quickly. While I understand how losing the series had all of us feeling some type of way — I'm still not over it myself — I completely agree that Landy's return is one of the coolest moments in Colorado sports history and something that we should continue to celebrate.

The Avalanche fell short of expectations. I get it. You get it. We all get it. So don't take this as me trying to gloss over how disappointing it was for a legitimate contender to fall in the first round. Obviously the Stars are a great team as well, but it was Stanley Cup or bust after all of the moves the Avs made. Unfortunately they went all in but didn't get the card they needed with the river.

Putting all of that aside, though, Landeskog had to re-learn how to walk. It took him months to even be able to use stairs again. The fact that he's been able to not only make it back after three years, but play as well as he did in the postseason, it's pretty freaking remarkable. As heartbroken as I am over how the series played out, I'm equally as excited to see back out on that ice next season.

Oh captain, my captain!
