👋 Good Morning!
The Broncos are eight days from playing their first preseason game of the year. It was a long winter after a fun 2024 campaign came to a tough end in Buffalo. But the hope we’re feeling in the Mile High City right now reminds me of what it used to feel like going into the season throughout my childhood.
Admittedly this fanbase was spoiled for a long time. After the last decade, though, I think I’ve gained some perspective with this whole process. I’ll certainly never take having a quarterback for granted again.
I can almost smell the hot dogs and beer as you walk the concourses of Mile High. I hope to see of you at the Broncos tailgates this fall.

The Rockies are operating like a real team for once

(Imagn)
The Rockies have been sellers ahead of the trade deadline and while that’s a tough concept for some fans to embrace, it was the right move for a team that needs to burn it all down before rebuilding from the ground up.
Instead of hanging on to aging pieces from past success and assets that won’t help you by the time you’re going to be competitive, the Rox need to stockpile as many quality prospects as possible. They lucked out with Ethan Holliday falling to four in the draft but this is how they need to fill out the rest of the talent depleted organization if this thing is ever going to turn around.
Colorado has basically done the obvious this summer, so I don’t want to give the club too much credit here. But for an organization / owner who tends to prioritize ticket sales over a competitive product, it’s at least nice to see them operating with some semblance of a plan.
I’m not going to hold my breath or anything like that. But it would be fantastic if there was a timeline in which the Rockies finally figured out their shit and sustained a little bit of success.
There are some fans who are simply done with baseball and I don’t blame them at this point. I was as dejected as I’ve ever been in 30 years of sports fandom when the Rockies shipped out Nolan Arenado. But I think there are a lot of folks like me out there — people who would buy in to the team in a heartbeat if they ever got their act together.
Contrary to the snarky commentary you might see on ‘X’, Colorado is a baseball state. If you don’t believe me then go check out the thousands of teams playing on any given weekend in the various complexes across Colorado. Or just go back and check out the crowds in the few times the Rox have managed to make the playoffs.
I’ve been in college football stadiums with over 100,000 people that didn’t shake the ground like Rockies fans did when Matt Holliday slide headfirst into home. I’d kill to feel that energy in Coors Field again someday.

The Broncos have had some tough injury luck at linebacker over the last week or so. It doesn’t sound like the Dre Greenlaw situation is something to panic over though. (Thank God)

Making Colorado proud
Trey McBride spent some time at CSU while he was back in Colorado this summer.
“It was a lot of fun to go visit those guys, to go workout with Colorado State, to show those guys, you know, what they can do & how they can get to the league. Things like that.”
