What will we actually do this summer?

Plus, a few thoughts on missed chances

šŸ‘‹ Good Morning! The further we get into the NBA and NHL playoffs, I can’t help but think about what a missed opportunity this spring feels like. Both the Nuggets and Avalanche would have had really strong chances to win championships had they made it through their respective matchups. I guess that’s being a sports fan in a nutshell though.

Winning is great but it’s a fleeting feeling. It’s the ones that get away that end up sticking with you. The times you know in your heart that the team was good enough and things just don’t play out your way. The Broncos in 1996, 2005 and 2012. The Nuggets in 2009. The Avs in 1997-2000. Add 2025 to the list of years where you look back, shake your head, and just think about what could have been. — Justin Michael

What are we actually going to do this summer?

(Imagn)

We’re unfortunately now in a pretty rough stretch for the Denver sports calendar. There’s still some playoff action nationally but locally we’re in the dreadful spot of the Rockies being the only show going. It’s something I wouldn’t even subject my enemies to.

Watching the Rockies right now is like watching 9-year-olds stumble around the diamond at the local YMCA. The difference is they’re not your nephew, so it’s not cute. It’s just sad. There’s hopeless and there’s embarrassing, and then there’s Rockies baseball.

I don’t have anything deep to say about the state of the franchise that hasn’t already been said a thousand times. Every day I turn on the game, though, and it just makes me mad. Coors Field can be an electric place in the right setting. Denver can be a phenomenal baseball town. Just give us something to buy into.

The 2007 tiebreaker game against San Diego is still my all-time favorite sports experience. I’ve never felt a stadium shake like Coors Field did when Matt Holliday was called safe at home plate.

I miss hanging on the edge of my seat with every pitch. I miss hearing the crack of the bat and holding my breath a little bit as I wait to see if the hitter got all of it. I miss genuinely and passionately caring about this team.

Maybe the magic will return some day. Maybe this historically awful team will be the final straw. I don’t know what else to hope for at this point.

PS I could use some recommendations on shows to watch this summer. A man can only take so much bad baseball.

Grab some Nuggets gear!

This group gave it all they had. Rep the Nuggets with pride.
