👋 Good Morning!

I wanted to start the newsletter by expressing my appreciation and admiration for the legendary Lee Corso.

After decades of bringing so much joy to college football fans every Saturday, this weekend’s edition of College Game Day will be his last. As someone who has religiously watched the show his whole life, it’s going to be pretty emotional seeing him say goodbye.

It’s been a hell of a run. Here’s to one of the all-time greats.

Will the Avs get a deal done with Martin Necas?

(Imagn)

We’re a little over a month away from the start of the NHL regular season and to this point the Avalanche have not been able to come to terms on a contract extension for Martin Necas.

Don’t worry… yet. There’s still plenty of time to work something out. Coming off of last season’s drama with Mikko Rantanen, though, it’s definitely a situation that has the Avs faithful on high alert.

Necas was a little too quiet at times in the playoff series against Dallas. That said, he’s a very talented offensive player that’s seemingly just now entering his prime. He’s also an elite skater who naturally pairs well with Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Necas might not be revered in the way that Rantanen was, but he’s a high-ceiling player who is worth investing in if the two sides can find middle ground.

Check out this awesome in-depth breakdown on all of the little intricacies of this current situation. It gets into the analytics, the varying outside factors at play and so much more.

ICYMI: CU named Kaidon Salter the starting quarterback for Week 1 against Georgia Tech.

The Broncos brought my guy Adam Prentice back via the practice squad. Keep up with all of the latest roster moves with the practice squad tracker.

Three rookies out of CSU made NFL rosters this week. Tory Horton was unsurprising after being selected in the fifth round by Seattle. Dom Jones (Cleveland) and Drew Moss (San Francisco) both made their respective teams as undrafted free agents though. It was pretty cool to see.
